Disappointing make-up of 2015

The last installment in the recap of 2015 takes us over to the disappointing make-up products section. Luckily, there haven’t been many of them last year but two of them were quite expensive so the year could have gone better. Let me just say that although the product didn’t work for me that doesn’t necessarily mean they wouldn’t work for you. Also, I do like these brands and many other products from them, so the items mentioned below were just unlucky coincidences.

Let’s start with the biggest disappointment – the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit. It cost me 40$ as I bought it in the US, but in Slovenia you would pay a whopping 75 € for it! I wrote an entire rant about the palette which you can read here (swatches!) but to recap – I didn’t like the packaging, the pigmentation or the shades so I wouldn’t encourage you to buy it. Instead, consider a cheaper alternative, like the Makeup Revolution contour palettes or another high-end one (I love my Kat von D Shade&Light palette). View Post

Monthly make-up basket

As I’ve already mentioned in my blog post schedule, I’m planning on doing a bi-weekly make-up basket. I’ve decided on doing so because I think that I will switch between products a lot more this way and perhaps even rediscover some forgotten gems in my stash (but that naturally doesn’t mean I won’t use anything else besides the mentioned items). Besides that, it will also benefit my make-up collection since I’ve quickly learned that each item must be cleaned before photos are taken 🙂

That being said, here are the products I’ll be using more for the next two weeks.

I pulled out one of my newer purchases, the L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying base to see if it will reduce some of the shine. For foundation, I’m going to go with Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation (30 – Beige). I know I’ve used this a couple of times in the Autumn when I got it but I think the formula was too thin so I stopped using it.

I’ll use the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in shade 15 which is nice for my under eye area. For setting everything, I’m going with the Maybelline Fit me Compact Powder (250 – Sun Beige) to see how it will hold my foundation in place.

As far as contouring goes, I’ve had the Collection Countour Kit Highlight&Sculpt for more than six months and maybe used it once. I think the highlight is beautiful and I hope the contour shade will be appropriate for my already slightly bronzed face. On days I don’t want to bother with contour, I’ll use the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Powder.

I’m also going to be using my new Golden Rose Silky Touch Blush-On in shade 207. I think this nice peachy color is absolutely perfect for spring and I can’t wait to start using this beautiful blush.

I’m going to try and use up the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer since it’s a sample and I’ve had it since forever. I’m excited to start properly using the Catrice Chocolate Nudes which have been on some travels with me but don’t get enough love at home. View Post

Best of 2015: Make-up

Yes, I know, I know – doing 2015 favorites in May isn’t exactly current. But nevertheless, I wanted to share the make-up products that impressed me the most in 2015 with you. It was difficult to choose the best of the best, but here are the ones that I enjoyed the most. I suggest you get a cup of coffee and a snack, since it’s going to be a looooong post!

Let’s start with the face. As I mentioned in my Friday Superstarts post about Melvita, my skin has really been acting up during pregnancy, so I used a very heavy-duty foundation – the Estee Lauder Double wear in 1W2 (Sand). It’s not the easiest foundation to apply since it’s very heavy and you definitely feel it on the skin, but it conceals imperfections perfectly. It’s also not the cheapest foundation on the market but a definite must from now on in my make-up drawer.

The problem with using such heavy foundation is that the fact ends up looking flat, two-dimensional. For that reason, I enjoyed using the Gerard Cosmetics BB Illumination Facial Cream and mixed a couple of drops in with the foundation on days when I wanted to give my face a bit more life. The cream comes in a tan shade so it doesn’t change your foundation color if used sparingly. At about 22 € per 50 ml, it’s not exactly a cheap product, but I think it will last me at least two years, so I think it’s a good purchase.

In 2015 I’ve been loving two concealers. The first is the Coleur Caramel concealer (n. 12) which is a creamy concealer in a salmon shade – I already wrote about it here. I use it to cover up my dark circles and it does the job beautifully. I bought mine in Muller. The second concealer I used all the time is the Maybelline Fit me concealer in n.10 – it is a good match for my skin so I use it to cover any imperfections. Since it’s a liquid concealer, I use a Beauty Blender to really blend it in and the results are more than satisfying. I am not sure if these are available in Slovenia yet since I bought mine in Austria, but you can order them from various online stores.

I am a big believer in setting the foundation and the product I used the most in 2015 and the months leading to this post is the Avon Ideal Flawless pressed powder in light medium.

Nail Art – Guest post by Anna – Mad About Red

Hello.

I am so glad to be a part of Blogvember here on Low maintenance beauty blog. For me it’s impossible to write 10 blog post per month and I have no idea how you can manage and write everyday for one month. So I was super excited when Maša asked me if I would be a part of her Blogvember.

I could write about any thing, but I decided to go with something really close to me – manicure. The magic December is almost here and I decided to do a bit more neutral but still sparkly manicure that every one can rock. Maybe on Christmas or New years eve or any day in December. It’s also super easy.

I started with one coat of base coat, two coats of Golden Rose gorgeous polish in 101 and for some sparkles I add Avon magic effect in Pearl. You can add sparkly polish where ever you want and as much as you want, but I choose to add it only on one side of each nail. I helped with scotch tape, for straight line.

Super easy right? I hope I inspire you for some sparkles.

Have a sparkly weekend!

A new player in town: Golden Rose Slovenia

A week ago, I was kindly invited by Golden Rose Slovenia to join them in opening their first ever store in Slovenia. As some of you who follow me on Instagram know, I mentioned I could live in that store – it’s absolutely packed with wonderful products and my hands started itching the moment I got there. The store I visited is in BTC Ljubljana in Hala A, but they opened another one today in Mercator Center in Šmartinska, which by the photos looks just as great and I can’t wait to visit it as well.

Golden Rose is a Turkish brand and this is their first appearance in Slovenia. Even though their selection is already huge, they will be adding BB creams and primers (among other products) to it in the following few weeks. I got a sneaky peek at both of them and I can’t wait to get my hands on the BB cream – it was smooth as butter and really gave good coverage as well.

Anyway, the lovely ladies at the store were very kind and helpful and since I was allowed to pick out a few products to try out, I let them do the choosing. Honestly, I couldn’t be more satisfied with their choices. I also really like the fact that all the products displayed are only testers and the new products are given to you from the back – that way, you’ll always know you’re really getting a new, sealed product that hasn’t been opened yet.

I really think that there is something for everybody in this store – but beware, if you’re a nail polish junkie, you might want to take a day off. All of the products are really inexpensive and what’s even better, the price – quality ratio is absolutely wonderful.

Anyway, let’s take a look at some of the things I got to take home with me.

It’s always quite difficult for me to pick a foundation and even more difficult to choose a right shade, but again, I got significant help from the sales assistant. I came home with the Golden Rose Perfect Finish liquid foundation in shade 63. View Post
