New products – August 2015

I tried to be reasonable with my shopping in the past month, since I’ve got quite some business and personal trips coming up in the near future and I intend to purchase some products that are not easily available to me in Slovenia (or not at all). That being said, I still slipped on some occasions and I also received some Freedom Make-Up from Licila.si to try out, but I will review those in a separate post.

First off, I took advantage of a nice Yves Rocher offer where one could choose three products for 12,50 € (the promotion is still valid).

Since I’ve never tried Yves Rocher products before, this seemed like a nice opportunity. I bought the Replumping serum foundation, Blackberries sparkling body powder and Hair Repair Oil. The company also sent me some extra samples to try out and a shopping bag which comes in handy for my everyday grocery purchases.

I haven’t tried all of the products yet, but can I just point out how beautiful this packaging from the sparkling body powder is? I absolutely love the little puff and the smell of it as well – it really does smell like blackberries! View Post

A very OLD Make-up Haul & Mini Reviews

So the thing is, my clients obviously ganged up and tried to see how much I can take before I crack under pressure. I’m still alive, though, so they’ve been doing a poor job so far. But the thing is that I spent every free second of my days sleeping and recovering and wasn’t really up to blogging. It also explains why this post was originally supposed to be just a haul, but now it’s going to be a haul with reviews, which is just as well or even better I guess.

Because, let me be tell you one thing. I can be dead tired, but my make-up will be great nevertheless. Just so we’re clear on that front.

Anyway, this is what I picked up since end of December until the middle of January.

As you can see, we’ve got a little bit of everything. Let’s start with face and eyes, shall we? I picked up two Real Techniques sponges – one for me and one for my friend (and one of the very few people in my life who know about this blog). I’ve had the last sponge for about 6 months and it was really time to get rid of it. This costs about 8 € on Licila.si, but they always have special deals you can take advantage of.

Next, I really, really needed a new foundation. This L’Oreal Infallible was on sale in DM for about 9 €, so I picked it up since I remembered using a similar one from L’Oreal before and being satisfied with it. But, alas, I completely missed the mark on the shade – I got True Beige when I should have gotten Natural beige, a couple of shades darker. So now I basically look half dead before I apply my setting powder. It’s an OK foundation, nothing special. What I really want to know, though, is about the primer from the same line – have any of you beauties tried it yet? What do you think about it?

Last thing in this package is the NYX Powder Blush in Taupe. Now I’ve been obsessing over my bronzers for the past few months ever since I hit pan on my beloved Tarte blush (which I’m now saving for special occasions – is this something you do as well with your beloved products?). I learned that this is supposedly a perfect contour color, since it’s not too dark and not too brown and has grey undertones. As I understand, the bronzer used for contour is not supposed to be brown but rather grey-ish, since that’s the color that the shade on your face produces. View Post

No make-up shopping until 2015?

I tried my best with this resolution dating back to October, I really did. But with all the sales and great deals, I was destined to fail before I even really attempted to succeed and not buy any make-up until 2015. So over the course of the last month, I picked up (or was sent) quite a few of the products and I am only showing you the ones I already have an opinion on or I am really excited about. I hope you won’t mind the pictures terribly – it’s obvious now that since I will never be home in time to shoot the pics in daylight, I will need to do something about my camera, but for now, we are stuck with what we have.

Let’s start with face products. This Chanel Vita Lumiere foundation (in beige) is my first ever Chanel foundation. I will have to give it a few more tries but so far I am less than impressed. It’s quite sheer and tends to stick to the dry areas of my face although I am using a primer. For the price, I was really hoping that it would be a full coverage foundation that would still somehow make it look like I am wearing nothing on my face. That is what I was promised and I must say, that not only does the product not deliver on the promises; it fades in comparison to some of the drugstore foundations. I will try it with another primer, but I am disappointed so far.

I can only say completely the opposite about the Sleek blush palette (in Pink lemonade). This was sent to me by Licila.si and I absolutely love it. The packaging itself is beautiful (although I’ll admit it’s a bit hard to open with long nails) and the palette contains two powder blushes (Pink mint on far left and Icing sugar on far right – both have a very slight shimmer to them) and one cream blush (macaroon in the middle). Until this palette, I was sure that the only blush that would look good on me is light, almost neutral, pink, but I have been getting compliments from left and right wearing the darker Icing sugar. All three blushes are highly pigmented so they should last you forever. View Post

(Low) Maintenance Beauty Massive Haul – part 2 (make-up)

This is the second part of the haul which I think will be quite a long one, so brace yourselves. You should probably get something to drink, go to the toilet etc. so you can properly enjoy it in one piece afterwards.

So, as mentioned in my previous post, the shopping was a bit out of control. If you are not into this kind of posts, please click out and return another day when I will be discussing my thoughts on other subjects. Because this is a shopping haul post and it is what it is.

And just a simple disclaimer about the order – this is the exact same order I would use the products in, which makes the most sense for me.

PRIMERS

Primers were bought in large quantities, but this doesn’t mean I deviated from what I think is the best price-quality product. So I stuck to the Maybelline Baby Skin pore eraser and just went for it. I actually had to go to three different drugstores to get my hands on four of these babies. But they are mine now.

These are by far the best primers I have tried in my life so far. They are soft, but not too soft, they stick to the skin but don’t make it stick and they definitely work the way they are supposed to. I see that my make-up goes on much more smoothly and actually stays in place. So well done, Maybelline. These guys are pretty inexpensive, I think they cost about $6 each. I can’t get them in Slovenia so I really stocked up, obviously.

For eye primers, which are virtually impossible to get in Slovenia, I really really wanted to get the Urban Decay potion, but that stuff is so expensive I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the price. So instead I opted for two drugstore products – Wet n’ wild Fergie eye primer which was about $5 and the E.L.F Studio eye primer & liner sealer which I think was $3. None of these I can get in Slovenia so I cannot compare the price. I also got another mini primer in Sephora but we’ll get to that later.

First opinion – I love the WW primer and I’m NOT loving the E.L.F one which I think has to do with the texture, not the results for my eye make-up. The Wet n’ wild one is liquid and the E.L.F. is stick, so it’s much more difficult to apply. But I’ll have to test them more to give my final verdict on these puppies. View Post

(Low) Maintenance Beauty Massive Haul – part 1 (face & body care, perfumes)

This post could have also been addressed – I flew, I bought, I conquered. And I am sorry that I’ve been gone this long, but workload before holidays was insane and I barely had the chance to pull it off before we flew to US.

Obviously, shopping wasn’t the sole purpose of the trip, but in the end me and my hubby bought way more stuff than we even thought possible. We flew to San Francisco with 28 lb of luggage between us (2 suitcases) and flew back with 148 lb + all the stuff that we packed in our carry-on bags. So yes, quite insane.

But the thing here is that you guys that live in the States probably have no idea how lucky you all are. The clothes from the brands we like (Banana Republic, GAP, Levi’s, VS, Abercrombie etc.) were so inexpensive that we bought enough clothes to last us at least a year. How lucky you are that you probably all live across the street from Bath & Bodyworks. I spent 2 hours in there and my only though now when I’m trying all the products out is that I should have bought another suitcase. And make-up…yes… but this is the story that we’ll get into a bit more in-depth.

I bought both drugstore and high-end make-up. Some I got because it was so ridiculously cheap compared to prices here in Slovenia (I will try to compare prices where I can). And some I bought because I wanted to try all the new, pretty, shiny brands that were attacking me from every corner. I will try to go over the purchases in the same order I would use them. So without further ado, here is THE haul.

FACE

I must say, that I am a bit skeptical about all these gadgets that supposedly make your face feel like newborns. So I didn’t go for the Clairsonic but instead opted for the less expensive version – the Olay Pro X. So far I must admit that I’m very impressed so this might just be a step towards actually getting the Clairsonic. But I can tell that I’m breaking out less and that’s what’s most important.

ProX also came with a pore scrub of some kind which I haven’t tried out yet. I also purchased a Neutrogena purifying pore scrub. First impression – not too crazy about it. It seems kind of difficult to wash off. But it’s early days still.

ProX cost about $30 , I’m not sure if you can get it in Slovenia. I did try to look for the Neutrogena scrub and couldn’t find it in my local drugstore.

Next up was Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel. This was a Sephora purchase and since it was so inexpensive, I actually bought 3 instead of just 1.

Just to give you an idea – this puppy cost $26 in Sephora. In Slovenia, I would have paid $64 for the same amount. So basically, I could say that I almost bough 3 for the price of one.

BTW, I don’t know why the prices of Clinique in Slovenia are so sky high. I must look into that. View Post
