Beauty Advent calendars 2017

advent calendars

This year, the advent calendar madness started early and caught me off guard. Last year, I wrote my post on advent calendars in November and got much criticism about being way to late – so this year I’m super early. Down below, you can check out some of the advent calendars that caught my eye this time around. This post may contain some spoilers!

ASOS (www.asos.com, 74€)

asos_beauty_advent_calendar_2017

Asos advent calendar will most likely be the one I get for myself this year. There are some really cool brands in there that I’m looking forward to trying out, such as Starskin, Smasbox, Cowshed, Carmex and so forth. It’s easy on the eyes and also has a special surprise in the last window. Inside, you’ll find a code for 20 % off your next purchase which may come handy during the year.

THE BODY SHOP (50€ for 24 Days of Beauty)

Word on the street is that The Body Shop is finally coming to our beautiful little Slovenia and I really hope it happens before December. The rest of you can probably get in online. They have a couple of advent calendars available, the cheapest one will cost about 50 €. I really like Body Shop as a brand and I think that advent calendars are a great way of sampling different products, making future purchases much more simple. Am I right or am I right? View Post

Top 10 autumn beauty products

autumn beauty products

Today, I’d like to share 10 beauty products that are entering my skincare routine this autumn and that I’m personally very excited about.

SKINCARE

autumn beauty products Vichy The Ordinary

Heating takes its toll on my skin and I often notice it becoming more dehydrated and the pores getting more and more enlarged – almost as if they’re trying to suck all the moisture out of the air? This year, I’ll be battling the dehydration with The Ordinary 2 % hyaluronic acid. This acid is normally present in our skin but we can replace it when we feel that our body cannot hold enough moisture. Don’t forget to lock it in place with an oil based product, be it a cream or a pure facial oil – my favorite right now is Yanumi! I’m also bringing back the Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask that comes in this nifty two-use packaging. It contains two mineral clays and I always feel like it sucks the impurities right off my face. I usually buy my Vichy products at the pharmacy.

BODY CARE PRODUCTS

autumn beauty products L'Occitane Terre de Lumiere L'Oreal Mythic Oil

L’Occitane is always present in my skincare. In autumn days, I prefer heavier scents and oily shower gel since I fell they give more moisture to my skin. This fall, I’ll be using the L’Occitane Terre de Lumiere shower gel that comes from the perfume line Terre de Lumiere. The perfume itself is a bit strong for me, but the shower gel and body lotion have a more gentle smell which is very pleaseant. Another product that is always in my routine is the L’Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil. I always apply some to my hair while they’re wet. Ocasionally, I’ll warm a few drops between my fingers and apply them to the ends of my hair when they feel particularly dry. After use, my hair are soft and shiny.

NAILS

Catrice Brown Collection autumn beauty products

If you haven’t had enough of the Catrice Brown Collection polishes on my Instagram, here they are again. These are not colors that I’d wear in the summer but the earthy tones are perfect for fall and winter. I have three out of five shades in the collection – left to right they are 01 Fashion Addicted, 03 Goddess of Bronze and 02 Sophisticated Vogue. The formula is quite thick so one coat will do. I like that because it usually means my manicure will last a bit longer.

FACE

autumn beauty products Golden Rose Paese, Trend it Up, Physician's formula

I like my make-up to be a bit softer in the colder months. Although the Physician’s Formula MuruMuru Butter Bronzer smells like coconut and reminds me of summer, it’s still lighter then most of my bronzers and gives me that slightly sunkissed look. I’ll also be reaching for Golden Rose highlighting stick (Bright gold). This cream highlighter is really soft and blends out beautifully. If I’m going for a more striking look, I’ll apply it twice, but otherwise two gentle sweeps on top of the cheekbones will do the job. Don’t forget – always apply cream products before setting your face, otherwise it can look quite unnatural.

In the summer, I barely use any blush, but now the Trend It Up powder blush (020) is making a comeback to my everyday make-up routine. The formula of these blushes is great, very gentle and blends out nicely. On top of that, the price is great as well. Last but not least, let’s not forget about a good primer. I usually stay away from silicone primers in the summer (since they do nothing for wear time of my foundation), but I tend to like them in the colder months. Paese make-up base is the first one on my list. Paese is a polish brand that’s been impressing me with their products lately and this primer is definitely one of them!

LIPS

autumn beauty products autumn lipstick colors

When speaking of autumn lips, I think of darker colors, but I also like to include at least one shade that I can just pop on and leave the building. This time, this will be the job of Avon lipstick (Extreme Mauve) which is a nice pink shade but not too crazy to wear around the office. Among reds, I chose the NYX Gloss (True Red). For special occasions and walks around town, I’ll go for the Catrice by Dawid Tomaszewski in the shade C01. These are great lipsticks for a great price!

These are the products that I’m going to be using for the next couple of months. Have you tried any of them yet? I’d also love to hear about at least one product you cannot imagine autumn without. Until next time, stay beautiful!

My favorite Youtube creators – Slovenian Edition

Youtube slovenske ustvarjalke

About a week ago, I wrote a post about my favorite international YouTubers (*you can read it here*) that was very well received. So today, I’m continuing on this path with a post about my favorite Slovenian YouTube creators. These are girls that I know in real life so it would be a bit unjust (and also extremely difficult for me) to rank them best to last – they are all winners in my book. If I ever decide to venture into the world of YouTube, it will be because they inspire me so much

CHERRY COLORS

Tamara is a relaxed girl from Slovenian coast that always makes me laugh when I scrolling through her videos. She likes testing new things and sharing her opinions, she does unboxings and shows us her purchases and at the same time, she also tackled some fun challenges. She is relaxed and her true self in front of the camera – if you’re looking for someone with the perfect background and some who is always picture-perfect, then Tamara is not the one for you. But if you’re looking for some real honesty and energy, I’d highly recommend her to you.

AJDA SITAR

Ajda is a person who does everything in her life extremely professionally. If you already follow her on any social media, you must know that. That professional attitude can also be felt in her YouTube channel which only holds a handful of videos, but every single one of them is worth your time. We can watch Ajda travel right now, but I’m hoping for some more beauty videos soon.

NINA BEAUTYNA

Nina is a MUA in real life so it’s no surprise that you’ll find a bunch of really good tricks and tips for perfect make-up in her videos. I love that she uses different brands of all prices ranges because that’s something I try to achieve on my blog. I really love watching Nina’s videos in the evening because of her soothing voice – a perfect ending to the day. If I ever need a MUA to do my make-up, Nina is definitely the first person I’ll turn to!

GEJBA PAROKEETS

I sure can’t miss putting Gabi on this list. She used to post quite seldom, but recently she’s been really active so I’m happy to recommend her channel. I like that she covers different topics that may not be very conventional (plaque removal or SPF reviews). Her videos are well planned meaning you’ll get a ton of information in a short period of time. Since I don’t have the time to spend hours in front of my computer, I find her way of doing videos great.

KATJA SPANKA

Katja is the one that posts most frequently on her YouTube channel from all beauties mentioned above. You’ll find different tutorials on her channel, ranging from those for beginners to some more complex. Her videos are done without a voiceover which might trouble you a bit if you’re new to make-up but I don’t see it as a problem. Don’t forget to check out the challenges she does with her boyfriend!

Until next time, stay beautiful!

MY TOP 5: BEAUTY YOUTUBERS – INTERNATIONAL EDITION

Today, I’m in the mood for something different. This is a very popular topic in the beauty community – which Youtube beauty vloggers do we watch, who has the scoop on the newest items in the market, who is lying and who is telling the truth, whom do we trust and why. I don’t like repeating myself too often so here they are – my top 5 foreign beauty Youtubers. I’m also planning a post about my favorite Slovenian beauty Youtubers very soon. Hopefully, you’ll find someone new to enjoy in my top picks.

5th place: Zabrena

This beautiful redhead provides great make-up looks, especially ON POINT eyeshadows. She also provides I believe are honest reviews of trendy make-up products. You should also check out her Frugal Fridays series for some great tips to save money. Zabrena’s videos are never too long and rarely exceed 10 minutes, so she’s often my little make-up fix while I’m waiting for the pasta to cook.

4th place: Gothamista

Gothamista is nothing but serious when it comes to skincare. She had problems with skin in her youth and since then, she’s been on the hunt for the best (luxury and drugstore) skincare products. She’s the one I trust the most on reviews for new skincare and Korean beauty. Throw a bit of DIY in the skincare department in there and voila – you’ve got a channel you should definitely check out before investing in that 70€ moisturizer.

Avon Mark: top and flop products

Avon Mark

I am quite partial to Avon Mark line as you may well know if you’ve been following my posts for a while. I love the visual elements of the brand with the stunning black and white prints and combinations that look great both live and on the photos. Since I’ve tried quite a few of their products by now, I chose the top (and some flop) products to talk about today.

Avon Mark: lip products

Avon Mark Plump It Lipstick

Let’s start with the lipsticks since I already wrote about them *here*. Mark Plump-it lipsticks are absolutely gorgeous, soft and comfortable on the lips. They are also quite long wearing as I can usually get away with re-applying only once every four hours. My favorite shades are Divine Wine, Reddy to go and Rose Kisses.

Avon Mark Plump-it lip gloss

Unfortunately, I’m less impressed by Avon Mark Plump-it lip gloss which is supposed to give you a look of full and plumped-up lips. I wasn’t able to figure out the exact active ingredient (my money is on peppermint) but the tingling that comes with the use is absolutely something I don’t enjoy at all. The shade Mauve is gorgeous to wear independently or over a regular lipstick, but I don’t think we should sacrifice feeling comfortable just to look pretty – do you?
