September favorites

September rolled by so fast that I was actually stopped dead in my tracks when I glanced at the calendar. Oh well, another month older, and only 2 months to go until December which is my absolute favorite month of the year. But anyway, here are my favorites for this month and you can tell from the background that I’m really going to miss the summer as well.

First up, let’s talk about the Philip Kingsley products. I got these trial sizes from Look Fantastic website for a couple of € – the Body and Shine try me kit included 20ml of an elasticizer, 20ml of shampoo and 20ml of conditioner. Now supposedly this should be enough for only one use, but I was able two scrape out two from the bottles and there’s still some left. I didn’t care much for the elasticizer, but the shampoo and condition left my hair bouncy and silky the way they usually only look when I leave the hairdresser. The full size is very expensive, but I think they will be my Christmas gift to myself this year.

Next up – again from Look Fantastic – I got the Ambiance Volumizing Dry Shampoo in Blonde, which is the color I dye my hair. I would normally never buy this because it regularly costs about 15 €, but it was on sale for about 5 € and it even came with a free refill.

It claims to clean and refresh hair without water, and maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t, I can’t really tell. But I haven’t had the time to go to the hairdressers in over a month (don’t judge – it takes over 4 hours) and my roots are starting to show, so I’ve been using this dry shampoo as some sort of fake everyday color. It applies with a brush which is great for even application. The only downside with this is that it’s really difficult to stuff the brush back in when finished, but I can live with that. View Post

Very late August favorites

I have been feeling under the weather so much lately that my blog also suffered from it. However, I am feeling really productive today so hopefully things will get better. Does the weather affect you as well?

Anyway, it’s time for the much overdue August favorites. As you can see, it’s been a very nail oriented month, especially because I spent some of it at the seaside and we all know what sea and sand and being all-around crazy will do to your nails…

Two of these I actually picked up in the USA – the OPI »I’m not really a Waitress« (BTW, the names of OPI polishes crack me up, I spent a good ten minutes just reading them and laughing out loud, which is much less unusual in America as it would be at our local DM store). Unlike most nail polishes, this one actually comes across a bit darker than I would have imagined, but that’s OK, because it will be a pretty fall color as well. I love the consistency (it’s my first OPI and I didn’t know what to expect), but above all I love that it actually lasts more than 2 days on my nails. So, favorite it is. View Post

Low maintenance – really?

Yesterday, my significant other watched me put on make-up from start to finish while he was taking a shower. When I was done he was utterly amused by the fact that I am writing my blog under the »low-maintenance beauty« name. Because, in his words, I’m anything but. And you know what? After reviewing my morning routine I realized he is right. What I want to know from you is if you find the bottom list something normal – something you do as well – or am I taking it a step too far?

This is the list of everything I put on yesterday + all the tools I used for application in the exact order I use them.

  • moisturizer (Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel) and lipbalm (EOS)
  • face primer (Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser) + fingers
  • eye primer (Too Faced Shadow Insurance) + fingers
  • liquid foundation (Rimmel Match Perfection) + Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
  • compact powder (Bourjois Healthy Balance) + BH Cosmetics Powder Brush
  • light concealer (Make Up Revolution Concealer) + Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
  • under-eye concealer (Instant Age Rewind Concealer) + Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
  • bronzer (Tarte Mineral Bronze Powder) + Ecotools powder brush
  • blush (NYX Blush in Pinched) + BH Cosmetics Blush Brush

  • eyebrow powder (NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder) + brush that comes with it
  • eyebrow gel (Essence Lash and Brow gel)
  • eyeshadow (Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette) + 3 BH Cosmetics eyeshadow brushes for application and blending
  • eyelash curler (no idea of the brand, picked it up at Walmart for a few $)
  • mascara (1 coat of Maybelline Volum Express Colossal Mascara + 1 coat of Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara)
  • eyeliner (Maybelline Master Precise liquid eyeliner)
  • lip liner (Uma Cosmetics)
  • lipstick (Barry M)
  • setting spray (e.l.f. Make-up Mist & Set)

Total? 19 products and 9 tools.

I’ll be the first to admit that this is a full face of make-up, although I apply it in a way that is still appropriate for daytime. I mainly separate daytime and night time looks by the amount of contouring and the darkness of the eyeshadow – there is probably some other things that could also be taken into account? How do you change your daytime/night-time make-up?

At the moment, putting this on takes me a good 15 minutes, which is a ridiculous amount of time. I hope to get a bit faster eventually, but so far it is what it is. What I will say though is that I absolutely love the mornings now because every day I get to play around with make-up and try something new, which is something I never did before.

What is your favorite part of mornings?

Until next time, stay beautiful, stay awesome!

Five product face

Although I would have never chosen this tag for myself at this because I am currently in the “more is more” mode when it comes to make-up, simply because I have sooo many new items to try. But as luck would have it, I got tagged to do it by Mateja from Fancy and schmancy. This really got me thinking back to the times when I could literally get really in 5 minutes and I still thought I looked all right. Would I use the same products now as I have before?

Probably not. Before, I would have gone for heavy foundation, big eyes and lips. Today however, the story has changed. So here are the five products I would wear on a minimal make-up day. Disclaimer: camera still down, mobile photos awful, so here are some generic photos for you, sorry for that… 🙁

So I still haven’t got the face that would need no concealer, to be sure. But I’d prefer to go for a lighter coverage just in the areas where I need it with my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind eraser.

It’s just the right shade for covering all the spots that need coverage (which is especially true for my under eye circles) and at the same time light enough to do some very basic contouring. The formula is super smooth and I love the feeling of having that little on my face. I also often apply it on my chin and it’s the one thing that doesn’t seem to brake me out. Super happy I picked this one up, but at the moment it’s not available in Slovenia as far as I’m aware of. Surely, this will change by the time I use it up?

I debated for quite some time if I would choose a bronzer or a blush, but in the end I feel that the blush can come naturally during the day, while the bronzed effect cannot. So I would go for my Tarte Amazonian Clay bronzer, which is light enough to be used as a bronzer but can also be a useful contouring tool when needed.

It doesn’t require a heavy dusting to reach the desired effect, it’s not heavy on the skin and doesn’t have an unpleasant scent to it. Overall, this is my favorite bronzer up to date, not available in Slovenia.

One thing that I would have never, but never, picked for my 5 must haves a couple of months back are eyebrow tools. But what some proper brow maintenance and sculpting can do with my face has been the discovery of the year, hands down. I would go with my NYX Eyebrow cake powder which you can buy here in Mojadrogerija.si . This product has all that you could need for some basic brow work and is at the same time super small and compact. I’m absolutely loving the effect that full eyebrows give to my face and I never leave home without using it. It was already included twice in my blog, also in my July favorites so I won’t bore you with another photo of it.

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies is also quite a new find for me and my absolutely favorite mascara of the past years. I tried some pretty heavy duty (a.k.a. expensive) mascaras in my life, simply because it was the one thing I always made an effort to use no matter what. Well, they all fail in comparison to the Falsies.

This is an absolute favorite of my and even though I’m also trying out new mascaras all the time, this is the one I go back to whenever I need to be sure my lashes will stay long and hold their curl throughout the day. Buy the Falsies here at Salma.si or at most drugstores. It comes in regular and waterproof version so make sure you choose the right one for your needs. I would definitely go for the waterproof version in the summer, but stick to the regular otherwise only because the waterproof mascara is a SOB to remove.

Last product I would choose on a light make-up day is something for my lips. Here, I cannot go without the Catrice Pure Shine Color Lip Balm in #60 Go Flamingo Go or #30 Don’t think just pink. I mean don’t you just love these names? But I love the moisturizing effect and the lovely colors of these sticks even more.

Third from the left – Don’t think, just pink. Third from the right – Go flamingo, go.

Buy them here at Catrice.eu or in the biggest Slovenian drugstores. They mostly have a shiny finish and also smell quite nice, which cannot be said for some other drugstore lip products from drugstore brands – yes, L’Oreal, I’m looking at you.

So that’s it for my five product face – I daresay I would be willing to go out and about by only having these 5 products on my face, although to be honest, these days it’s more like 20 products with 15 different applicators, but that’s OK – more reviews coming your way any day now.

What are the 5 products you absolutely need to give you that skip in your step?

Until next time, stay beautiful.

July Favorites

The first real month of blogging went by in a flash. So it’s now time for my first favorites. This month, they are mostly connected to the the recent shopping activities.

First favorite definitely has to be the Bath & Bodyworks cande in mango coconut scent. I’ve really been looking for a candle that would have a summery scent and would make my evening routine even more pleasurable. This candle does all that and more, but is of course not available over here so I’ll soon be on the search for a new one. Until recently I was a real fan of Yankee Candles, but when comparing those to this particular candle they fail in comparison – this candle really gives away so much scent it’s ridiculous.

Next favorite has to be the Neutrogena naturals purifying pore scrub. This was an impulse buy because I just placed my Olay ProX into the basket and felt I needed to get something to use it with. I love the smell of it, the pilling is not too intense and it washes off easily compared to some other cleaning/pealing scrubs.

The third favorite of July is my Tarte Maracuja Brazilliance Self Tanner. A long name for a great product. This bronzer doesn’t take too much effort – I used it several times now and only did a scrub once before. No matter, it won’t stick to your elbows or knees. It contains maracuja oil which leaves the skin feeling incredibly soft and well moisturized well into the next day, but at the same time it only takes 10 minutes for it to absorbe into the skin – then you’re good to go!

Application with the enclosed glove is super easy, because the product itself is pigmented to show where you’ve already applied it. This pigmentation of the cream also gives you an instant “tan” which is great if you’re just about to slip into your shorts and go out for the day. It has absolutely no smell which I know many of us connect to the bronzers we can stock up in our drugstores. View Post
