Sun protection – beauty bloggers collaboration

Dear ladies,

first let me welcome you to the whole new look of my blog. I’m still working on improving some things, I have some editing to do and a whole lot of corrections, but I still want to post in the meantime, so please bear with me 🙂 I hope you like it, since I have been wanting a new look for a long time and this one really caught my eye.

Secondly, and possibly even more important, I want to again address the issue of safety in the sun. I already wrote a long post about it, which you should go and read since it guides you through understanding SPF in general (*click* to read that post).

I won’t repeat the dangers of exposing your skin to the sun in exaggerated amounts – you do need some sun exposure to get the all important vitamin D, but keep in mind that you need to be careful in the way you achieve that.

Saying that, I’m not the palest person in the world. I love to be out and about meaning that I do catch some sun rays. But I always, always wear SPF and I don’t bake in the sun deliberately – my tan comes from long walks with baby M and from the time I spend in the sea. But if you are the kind of person who values their pale skin and makes sure to keep it pearl white in all seasons – my hat goes out to you! There is no doubt that your skin will look much better than mine in twenty years’ time.

To make sure that you get all possible information about sun safety, our little group of Slovenian bloggers did a little collaboration with different posts about sun and sun screen. Make sure to check the link below where you can find posts by other great Slovenian beauty bloggers!

Until next time, stay beautiful (and out of the sun!)

New Bits and Bobs from May – review

Two weeks ago, I published a post with all the new products I bought or received in May (*click* to view the original post). Now, it’s time for short and quick reviews of the products – if you want a more detailed review for any of the products, let me know in the comments!

The L’Oreal Make-up remover says it’s not greasy, but it definitely is. I don’t mind it as much as I thought I would. It removes my make up great, even the waterproof mascara, so I’ll continue using it.

I quickly realized that I really cannot and should not be using anti-perspirants, no matter how badly I want to be sweat free. I didn’t like the Garnier InvisiCalm since it made my skin really sticky and weird feeling, so I threw it away.

I’ve rambled on and on about Nivea Protect&Refresh line already and I am a big fan. I’ve been using this sunscreen on every sunny outing so far and I am a big fan of the cooling effect.

The Mirati face wash gets a big thumbs up as well – it is a soft cooling gel that makes my face squeaky clean. I haven’t had any bad reaction to it and my skin is looking pretty great, if I say so myself. I’ve noticed that I only need the smallest amount to make it work, so this tub will last me ages. Knowledge is power (a.k.a. all about SPF)

The topic about sun protection is close to my heart since I inherited a skin with many birthmarks that I always need to keep an eye out for. I also didn’t pay much attention to my skin in my early 20’s and I’m trying to be better about it now.

Before we start looking at different products that can help you with keeping your skin safe, let’s start with some basics. Sunscreen helps prevent the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays to penetrate the skin. UVA and UVB rays (which sunscreens protect from) cause wrinkling and sagging of the skin and are one of the primary culprits for skin cancer. So, in short, it’s not a joke. View Post

Nivea Sun Protect & Refresh line and DM goodies

Summer is coming and new launches of products we need for the summer are popping out at all corners. I am a summer baby and I get a lot of energy from sun and sea so I am very much excited for this moody weather to be gone – nothing under 30 degrees Celsius counts as summer in my book!

With new baby, I spend a lot of time outside which is something that’s new to me. I got a slight sunburn more than a month ago when I spend about 30 minutes in the noon sun and that’s one of the reasons that this Sunday, I’m doing a big post about sun protection, but today, I want to talk about a new launch from Nivea.

This Protect and Refresh lotion is something that will excite those who enjoy a bit of freshness in the warm months and those who don’t like sunscreen because of the sticky feeling. It combines a highly effective UVA/UVB protection with a natural cooling effect because of the menthol in the lotion. It absorbs quickly and is waterproof, which is another plus in my book. I have used it a couple of times now and I must say that it’s my favorite Nivea sunscreen so far. I find that my skin is quite soft after I use it but not sticky so I can also add another layer of clothing quickly if the weather takes a turn for the worse, which it so often does these days.

The Sun Protect & Refresh lotion is available in a 200ml bottle with SPF20 for about 10,50 € and a 200ml bottle with SPF30 for about 11,50€. It also comes in two other versions:

the Sun Protect & Refresh Invisible spray retails for the same price as the lotion, as does the Sun Protect & Refresh cooling spray, but the latter also comes with SPF 50 which costs 12,70 €.

Besides this great new arrival from Nivea, I quickly wanted to mention a few things that have been happening in DM. If you haven’t noticed, Rimmel replaced Manhattan in most of the DM stores (and the others will be getting it soon). It sounds almost too good to be true, but I’ve seen it with my own eyes and I was quite impressed with the offer. I would guess that so far we are only getting the bestsellers, but I hope that in time we will also start getting new arrivals. Check out my search engine for reviews of different Rimmel products. New Bits and Bobs for May 2016

I’ve been shopping online quite a lot in the past few months, since I was basically tied to the couch for the last couple of weeks of my pregnancy and have not left the house for the first month much.

Basically what I’m trying to say is that the products you see above were not all bought in May, but I’ll try to keep up from now on with my monthly shopping report. I also completely forgot about my Lancome Juicy Shaker since it’s been in my purse ever since I’ve gotten it, but I think I’ll be writing a separate post about it very soon. I should also mention a present from Licila.si – the Freedom Brush Bath that I’ve already reviewed in a post you can read here.

Starting with skincare, I bought a new make-up remover from L’Oreal. It looks very oily in the bottle but promises to be “non greasy” so we’ll see about that. I also had to get a new deodorant and chose the Garnier mineral InvisiCalm antiperspirant. I am not a fan of antiperspirants in general but I’ll only be using this once in a blue moon for seriously sweaty situations so hopefully I won’t react badly to it.

Nivea was kind to send me a huge (and I mean huge) promotional package full of stuff for the summer, but the real star of the package is the new Nivea Sun Protect & Refresh sun lotion. You can expect more information about this bad boy in the Wednesday selection coming this week.

I also received a face wash from Mirati, a brand I didn’t know until very recently. I am happy to support local brands by giving my honest opinion and I’ll continue testing it until I’m ready to give a verdict.

I bought the Golden Rose Silky Touch Blush On (n. 207) about a week ago and so far, so good. I’m always impressed by the prices at GR counters and hopefully I’ll be impressed by the quality as well. View Post
