The Ordinary skincare products – really that ordinary?

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been playing around with a new brand in my collection – The Ordinary. It’s one of the brands belonging to a better known Deciem – The Abnormal Beauty Company. But even if The Ordinary wears a really unusual name, there’s nothing ordinary about it… First of all, I like the approach of the brand toward skincare: get good ingredients, pack them into very clean and sensible packaging, give it a good price and the product will sell itself. Considering I’ve had to wait a while for the products to come back in stock to order what I wanted, the logic seems to be working. Also, check out the Deciem online store: they will not only give you the exact specifications for each product, but also suggest a good regimen for your skin. All skincare brands should take a long good look and consider doing something like this on their own. All products are vegan and cruelty free.

Zadnjih nekaj tednov preizkušam znamke meni povsem nove znamke The Ordinary. Gre za podznamko krovne Deciem – The Abnormal Beauty Company.  Čeprav The Ordinary nosi nekoliko nenavadno ime, na njej ni nič običajnega. Všeč mi je pristop znamke k izdelkom: vzameš dobre sestavine, zapakiraš jih v enostavno in razumno embalažo, jim postaviš razumno ceno in izdelki se bodo prodali sami. Glede na to, da sem morala kar nekaj časa čakati, da so bili izdelki, ki sem jih želela, spet na zalogi, ta logika očitno deluje.  Če si ogledaš Deciem spletno trgovino, boš lahko za vsak izdelek prebrala natančne specifikacije, poleg tega pa ti natančno razložijo tudi, kakšen naj bi bil pravilen potek vsakodnevne rutine nege kože. Prav vse znamke bi se lahko iz tega nekaj naučile. Vsi izdelki so primerni za vegane in nis0 testirani na živalih.

 

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone primer (30ml 4,90€) was named by Wayne Goss as the best primer in this price range. I don’t know if I would necessarily agree with that, since I think that this primer is “just” OK. I prefer silicone based primers (except in the summer) since they tend to blur out my pores better. In this sense, The Ordinary primer works really well and makes a good base for make-up, but since it’s silicone based, it doesn’t help much with make-up sliding around my face which is something it promises to do . Extra points for not having any smell, but I don’t think I’d buy it again (I will however try The Ordinary high spreadability fluid primer). 2,5/5 točk.

The Ordinary High-adherence Silicone primer (30ml za 4,90€) je Wayne Goos imenoval za najboljši primer v tem cenovnem razredu. Wayne, sorry, ampak v tem primeru se s tabo ne strinjam, saj je meni osebno ta primer samo “OK”. Z izjemo poletja večino časa raje uporabljam silikonske primerje, saj bolje zabrišejo moje pore. To delo je The Ordinary primer opravil dobro in mojo kožo pripravil-za make-up, vendar pa zarai vsebnosti silikona ni kaj dosti storil za obstojnost mojih ličil, kar je tudi glavna obljuba tega primerja. Dodatne točke pri meni dobi, ker nima nobenega izrazitega vonja, vendar menim, da ga ne bom več kupila (bom pa preizkusila njihov drug primer, The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Liner). 2,5/5 točk.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (30ml 5,80€) is a whole other story. This is the last step of my beauty routine at night and most nights, I can’t wait to put it on. Yes, I do have other things piled up underneath this moisturizer, but the fact is that I feel like this gives my skin that last extra bit of hydration and really locks everything in place. Since it contains a bit of hyaluronic acid, that can’t hurt either. Like this primer, there is virtually no scent to this moisturizer. The only beef I have with it is the size of the packaging – since I tend to use quite a lot of moisturizer as I also cover my neck, I would prefer a bigger tube which would be less wasteful and better for environment. 4/5 points.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing factors + HA (30ml za 5,80€) pa je čisto druga zgodba. To kremo uporabljam kot zadnji korak v svoji večerni rutini in vsak večer komaj čakam, da jo bom lahko uporabila. Pod njo uporabim cel kup drugih stvari, vendar pa imam res občutek, da moji koži doda še kanček hidracije in v kožo dobro zaklene vse, kar sem tisti večer nanesla na obraz. Vsebuje tudi nekaj hialuronske kisline, kar vsekakor ne škodi. Tudi ta krema nima nobenega vonja. Moti me edino majhno pakiranje – ker sama vlažilno kremo uporabim tudi na vratu, bi raje videla večje pakiranje, kar bi bilo manj potratno in bi manj obremenilo okolje. 4/5 točk.

The Ordinary Vitamin C suspension 23 % + HA Spheres 2 % (30 ml 7,10€) is currently the coolest skincare product I’m using, hands down, no competition whatsoever. First of all, its texture is unlike anything I’ve seen before. Because it’s water free and silicone free (unlike most vitamin C suspensions in the market) which makes it highly stable (i.e. you’ll actually benefit from using it and not just feel good about rubbing it on your skin), it’s grainy and sort of… powdery. It’s definitely not smooth as a regular suspension and you can feel the tiny grains in it. If you apply it directly to the skin, it does sting a bit, but I apply it after hyaluronic gel every second day and I’ve had no troubles so far. What I’ve noticed however is my skin becoming much brighter and that’s all I ask for. The only problem I have with this is that it takes relatively long to absorb and I have to wait for some time before applying anything else to my face. For this price, I’m willing to wait. 5/5 points.

The Ordinary Vitamin C suspension 23 % + HA Spheres 2 % (30ml za 7,10€) je trenutno brez konkurence najbolj kul izdelek v moji rutini. Tekstura je izredno hecna. Ker je formuliran brez silikonov in brez vodne osnove (za razliko od večino drugih suspenzij vitamina C na trgu), je zelo obstojen (kar pomeni, da bo dejansko učinkoval, ne samo, da ti bo dal dober občutek, ker se ga spomniš uporabiti), posledično pa tudi…zrnast? Pudrast? Vsekakor ni nežen in mehak, kot druge suspenzije, v njemu pa lahko celo čutiš čisto drobna zrnca. Ob nanosu neposredno na suho kožo lahko celo nekoliko skeli, sama pa ga uporabljam po nanosu hialuronskega gela in teh težav nimam. Uporabljam ga le vsak drug dan, saj gre za dokaj agresiven izdelek, vendar pa sem že po nekaj tednih opazila, da je moja koža videti precej bolj sveža, kar je tudi tisto, kar sem od izdelka pričakovala. Moti me le, da je potrebno kar nekaj časa počakati, da se izdelek res vsede v kožo, vendar sem za to ceno pripravljena čakati. 5/5 točk.

All in all, I’m really liking The Ordinary brand since they offer natural products for a very reasonable price. I’m sure I’ll be trying out more of their products and most likely encounter others that won’t agree with me – but for the price of a few Euro, I can afford that. I’d recommend this brand to everyone who’s still looking for the right skincare routine, since you can try different ingredients and find out what suits your skin the best. Na splošno lahko rečem, da sem nad znamko The Ordinary navdušena, predvsem zato, ker mi ponuja naravne izdelke za razumno ceno. Gotovo bom preizkusila še marsikaj in najbrž naletela tudi še na kakšen drug izdelek, ki mi ne bo ustrezal – vendar si za ceno nekaj evrov to lahko tudi privoščim. Znamko bi vsekakor priporočila, če še iščeš tisto pravo rutino in prave izdelke zase, saj se tud lahko za majhen denar lahko spoznaš z različnimi učinkovinami in ugotoviš, kaj najbolj ustreza tvoji koži.
