August Wishlist 2017

august wishlist

It’s been a long time since I last shared my wishlist with you. Today, I was browsing through my PR mail and decided to write a post like this every single month – as a reminder for myself not to buy products on a whim, but also to assist you in making better purchase decisions for yourself.

august wishlist Essence Cubanita

This month, my wishlist is overflowing with skincare, so let’s start with make-up items as there are only a few of those. First on my list is the Essence Cubanita highlighter in the shade Mi corazon. I’ve hit major pan on my The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer and I think that this will be the perfect replacement for everyday makeup. I admit that I don’t get very excited for Essence summer collections (they seem a bit too childish for my taste), but I’m willing to make an exception for this gorgeous highlighter.

august wishlist Balm Contour palette

The other make-up item on my wishlist is The Balm Highlite n’ Con Tour palette (love the name!). It’s been a year since I added the last contouring palette to my collection (Kat Von D Shade&Light Contour Palette – review *here*) and I believe the time is ripe for a new one. I really like The Balm since they dare to do things differently and always surprise me with their packagings while retaining the quality.

august wishlist L'Occitane shower gel

Summer is the time to pamper my skin, so here are the skincare items I’ll be purchasing this month. Let’s start with the L’Occitane Citrus Invigorating shower gel. I love refreshing scents in the summer to wake me up and fill me with energy. I’m well acquainted with the Citrus line and I’m yet to meet a product I don’t like. I assume this shower gel won’t disappoint.

august wishlist Caudalie

Next up on the list is a moisturizing mask for my face that’s constantly a bit dry from abundance of SPF products and air-con in my car and at work. I’ve got my eyes on the Caudalie Cream Mask for intense hydration with grape-seed oil. I’ve also had many good experience with Caudalie products. Not only are the formulas great, they also get extra points for looking wonderful in my bathroom.

august wishlist Clinique take the day off balm

I’ve been using the Pixi & Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse for a month now and I must say it’s working great, but I’ve also heard great things about the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm. The concept is quite similar – the cleanser needs to be massaged into the skin to gradually remove make-up without any tugging or pulling. I use this time to give myself a short face massage, then use a muslin cloth with lukewarm watter to take it all off. I find this concept of make-up removing much more pleasant and effective then using cleansing cloths or micellar water.

august wishlist Nuxe

I already wrote a few posts about the Nuxe Oil, but it’s been a repeat purchase for quite some time now as I’m slowly getting to the bottom of my third bottle. I use it all over my body and occasionally apply it to hair as well. I like its scent even though I’m usually not the biggest fan of perfumed body products. Nuxe says they’ve improved on the formula so I’m looking forward to testing it out.

august wishlist BiodermaI won’t repeat myself about the importance of sun protection throughout the year – I’m sure I’ve mentioned it at least ten times this year alone. I’ll be using Bioderma Photoderm Spot 50+ SPF cream to protect my face in August. My skin is extra sensitive because of all the acids I’ve been using in my skincare, so I’m really intrigued by the promise that this cream protects against hyperpigmentation. I’ve tried several Bioderma products for my body, so I’m curious as to how I’ll like this one.

This is my August wishlist – I think it’s neither too short, nor too long. Is there something that impressed you recently and that should be on here? Let me know in the comments and, as always, stay beautiful until next time!

What’s in my beach bag 2017

Summer is fast aproaching and the days when we hit the beach are so close I can almost smell them. Thinking back, the contents of my beach bag changed a lot in the past few years. Waterproof mascara was replaced by a pacifier, BB cream by a small float. Naturally, the way I spend my days at the seaside changed as well – hitting the bars or restaurants directly on the way from the beach is out of the question now since baby M has his own ideas on how we’ll run the show. That doesn’t make our vacation bad – just different, and I’m sure all the mothers out there will agree. Anyway, I wanted to show you the products that will surely be hiding in my beach bag this summer.

Let’s start with the basics – sun protection. This year, my first line of deffence will be the Eucerin Sun Spray (SPF 30). It’s a transparent spray under pressure that can easily be used for the places that are normally hard to reach. I admit that I’ve really been enjoying the sprays in the past few years because I can apply sun protection super quick – remember that you need to apply it every few hours even if you stay out of the water! Eucerin products are available in all pharmacies. My face will be protected by Afrodita Sun Care (SPF 30) which I’ve spoken about before – it’s a light formula that absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a white cast which is why I also use it under my make-up every single day. Last but not least, I’ll continue using Mirta body butter to get some quick tan. You can find more information about this butter and how to use it in my recent post *here*.

Začniva z osnovo – zaščito pred soncem. Letos me bo na plaži ščitil Eucerin Sun Spray (SPF 30).

I hate cold water which is why I rarely venture into the sea more than once or twice per day, but I still love the feeling of being refreshed. I’m happy to report that I’ve found the perfect solution – the Balea Water spray (mine smells like coconut, but there are other scents available) which I can use to spray my face and body and get some chill on! I’m sure that the male side of my family will enjoy it as well, and we’ll smell great! Available in all DM stores. Another products which is never missing in my purse is the Twigs Anti-rub gel. If your thights don’t meet, feel free to skip the following few lines, but if they do, you know that walking in heat can cause some rubbing and even inflammation. This gel is silicone based. I only apply a little on the critical points and I have absolutely no issues walking in even the worse of heat. Twigs gel can be bought at online store Licila.si.

As always, I’ll be bringing my Tangle Teezer along for the ride – it’s the easiest way to keep my wet hair under control. I’ll probably be looking for some hair protecting spray before summer and I promise to report if I find anything good. I’ll also pack up the Mirta Lavender deodorant (read more about it *here*) because I don’t believe we should be torturing people around us with various body odors just because we’re at the beach. You can buy both their tanning body butter and the deodorant from their online store www.mirta.si.

Last but not least, I’ll also be bringing my L’Occitane Pivoine Sublime lip balm (SPF 25) that nourishes my lips, gives them a hint of red color and also protects them against damaging sun rays. L’Occitane always impresses me with great ideas and I think that lip protection is something we tend to forget about all too often. I’m also really loving the screw-on lid which will prevent the lip balm from opening in the bag, and the nice smell which follows me for hours after application. You can buy the balm at all L’Occitane points of sales and on their online stores.

These are the basics that certainly won’t be missing from my beach bag this summer. Will you invest in some of these, or do you recommend something that I need besides all of the above? Until next time, stay beautiful!

Do naslednjič, ostani čudovita!

Here comes the sun: Mirta Tanning Body Butter & Aloe Vera Lotion

Sunny days are finally here and this year, they caught me by surprise. Since I spend most of my days cooped up in the office, I’m always excited for the months with longer days when I get to spend some time outside in the sun after work. Naturally, I make sure not to expose my skin to the sun when it’s at its strongest. I use SPF cream on my face throughout the entire year and always make sure to put SPF on my body at least half an hour before sun exposure. If you want to read more about appropriate sun protection and the reasons why it’s so important, make sure to read *this* post I wrote last summer.

Super tanned skin hasn’t been in trend for a couple of years now, but I don’t mind getting at least a bit of color. This year, I got to test a product that will get me to a nice looking bronze skin quicker, meaning shorter exposure to sun rays – the Mirta tanning butter. I already wrote about Mirta deodorant *here* so I’ll only repeat myself quickly: it’s a Croatian brand from the island of Lošinj that produces completely natural products. I only disovered the brand this year and I’m very impressed with their products so far.

Zagorela polt že nekaj let ni preveč in, vendar sama nimam nič proti temu, da tekom poletja dobim vsaj malo barve.

Mirta tanning butter (100ml) is made out of 100 % natural ingredients and also carries a bit of natural SPF protection (6-8). If you’re not in the mood to read my previous posts, I’ll repeat myself here: I don’t think that SPF 6-8 is high enough protection for sun exposure. Personally, I recommend using SPF 30 or more. Mirta tanning butter could only serve as a protective agent for everyday errands when the periods of sun exposure are very short and random  – quick walk from the bus station to the office or a brisk stroll to the nearest bank. I use this product over a sun cream with SPF and I recommend you use it the same way.

View Post

Pre-foundation routine ***** Koraki pred nanosom tekoče podlage

I am really happy with the recent shift in the beauty circles – we stopped talking about high-coverage foundations and heavy make-up and started talking about how to best achieve natural and healthy looking skin. This naturally means that our skin needs a bit more TLC in order to still look good without caking on the foundation. Lately, I’ve been enjoying light coverage foundations and I must say that I am over the matte trend. I want my skin to look fresh and natural. Since I often get asked how I achieve this, I’d like to introduce you to my steps before applying liquid foundation.

Ker me pogosto sprašujete, kako to dosežem, vam danes predstavljam moje korake pred nanosom tekoče podlage.

Everything starts with a morning cleanse which includes a liquid gel cleanser (like Mirati, review *here*), a toner (like Bocassy, review *here*) and hialuronic gel. Now, my skin is ready to start with the pre-foundation routine. First, I need to moisturize my skin really well so I use three different products. First is the Melvita damaske rose floral water which I spray on my face a couple of times. Besides the lovely smell that really wakes me up in the morning, this is the first step of hydration. I follow up with some sun protection – at the moment, I’m finishing up the Avon moisturizing face cream with SPF 30. Protection against the sun is necessary all year long, not only in the summer months so it’s necessary that you include a product with a high SPF factor (in my opinion, factor 10 from many liquid foundation formulations just doesn’t cut it). Since I feel that Avon cream is somewhat lacking in the moisturizing bit, I end up the first step with the Yves Rocher Derma Care daily moisturizer which is also appropriate for sensitive skin. I give special attention to the under-eye area which prevents my concealer from caking later on. I give my skin a few minutes to soak everything in while I finish up getting dressed and style my hair.

I want to emphasize that all of the following steps work on my skin which is well hydrated but I do struggle with some dry areas and some redness. I apply my products very precisely so I can target the problem areas and not put too many layers on my skin which would consequently make my foundation slide around. You need to take a good look at your skin, find your problems and then apply this particular routine to your face as you see fit. As you can see from the photo (which is not photoshopped at all, but I reduced the level of brightness so you can see my problems even better – a small applause is appreciated), the difference my routine makes is really noticeable.

I start by covering my enlarged pores and creating a smooth canvas which will make foundation application much easier. I target my pores with Catrice Prime and Fine Smoothing refiner which fills up and blurs my pores. I apply The Ordinary High-adherence silicone primer to the rest of my face. This makes my skin much more smooth – read the whole review *here*.

Last two steps are intended for covering up the last imperfections and making sure that my skin looks healthy and glowing. I use Etude House Baby Choux base – Mint Choux primer to neutralize the redness between my eyebrows, around my nose and on the chin. Mint Choux has a green tint to it so it neutralizes the red undertone, but you can choose the color that will help your particular imperfections. There are many color correctiong products on the market right now. Last but not least, I apply Artdeco Strobing Fluid to the areas where I want to add some natural glow to the skin – on my cheekbones, above my eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose. It took me some time to figure out how best to use the strobing fluid. It’s not a highlighter since it doesn’t contain any shimmery pigment, but only gives a subtle, barely noticeable glow to the skin.

The entire routine takes up between 5 to 10 minutes, largely depending on how much time I can afford to the moisturizers from step one to really soak into the skin. Every single fundation I have tried works better on a skin that is well prepped, it applies easier and more evenly, doesn’t stick to dry patches, doesn’t slide off the face and doesn’t look unnatural. You will achieve the best result by using fresh, light foundations – the results won’t be as good with matte formula. Recently, I’ve been loving the Rimmel Fresher Skin liquid foundation – for a whole review, head over to Simona to Beauty of a Lemon blog where you can see that particular product in detail.

I hope that this post will help you in putting together a routine that will work for your skin and help you achieve the look you want. I’d love to hear your opinion about it! Until next time, stay beautiful!

Upam, da sem ti s tem zapisom pomagala in boš lažje sama sestavila rutino, ki bo ustrezala tvoji koži in ti podarila videz, kot si ga želiš. Z veseljem bi slišala tvoje mnenje! Do naslednjič, ostani čudovita!

Sun protection – beauty bloggers collaboration

Dear ladies,

first let me welcome you to the whole new look of my blog. I’m still working on improving some things, I have some editing to do and a whole lot of corrections, but I still want to post in the meantime, so please bear with me 🙂 I hope you like it, since I have been wanting a new look for a long time and this one really caught my eye.

Secondly, and possibly even more important, I want to again address the issue of safety in the sun. I already wrote a long post about it, which you should go and read since it guides you through understanding SPF in general (*click* to read that post).

I won’t repeat the dangers of exposing your skin to the sun in exaggerated amounts – you do need some sun exposure to get the all important vitamin D, but keep in mind that you need to be careful in the way you achieve that.

Saying that, I’m not the palest person in the world. I love to be out and about meaning that I do catch some sun rays. But I always, always wear SPF and I don’t bake in the sun deliberately – my tan comes from long walks with baby M and from the time I spend in the sea. But if you are the kind of person who values their pale skin and makes sure to keep it pearl white in all seasons – my hat goes out to you! There is no doubt that your skin will look much better than mine in twenty years’ time.

To make sure that you get all possible information about sun safety, our little group of Slovenian bloggers did a little collaboration with different posts about sun and sun screen. Make sure to check the link below where you can find posts by other great Slovenian beauty bloggers!
