Movember! (collaboration with The Beauty of Nail Polish blog)

During the month of November, the streets are crowded with  bearded and unshaven men. They proudly show off their facial hair (or lack of it) and I think they are enjoying the fact that they don’t have to shave for a month and nobody is judging them because of that. But I also think that many of them don’t know what Movember really stands for.

The word originates from the words Mo (Mustache) and November. Long beards and mustache are supposed to draw attention to various issues that can trouble men but don’t get spoken about that often. Among these we can mention prostate cancer, testicular cancer (which is most common among young men!) and also psychological issues with special attention to suicide prevention.

Although health is first and foremost the task of every individual, ladies can take care of their men as well and remind them to self-check regularly and visit the doctor at least every so often. The same applies for mental health. Too often, men think that they can save themselves and the world, holding their emotions in until sometimes it’s all too much and help doesn’t come in time. Even a long, honest conversation can help your partner, brother, father, neighbor in distress a lot.

When I was thinking about how to write about taking care of self, I took a peek into my partner’s bathroom cabinet and the topic was clear in my mind. What you see in the photo below are all the products that my hubby uses in everyday life. Afrodita shower gel, Ombia shaving foam, Carolina Herrera 212 Men NYC deodorant and aftershave and Johnson’s baby shampoo.

Product empties

I haven’t emptied my trash can in a long while – too long, I might add, so I was presented with a pile of used products that you now get to view for your own pleasure 🙂 I’ll try to write short reviews, but you know how it is with me – short posts are definitely not my forte.

Starting off with hair products, I am done with the Aussie Repair Miracle shampoo and conditioner for damage control. I found these two OK, but after using them for a long time I noticed they did make my hair a little bit heavier and they got greasier a bit quicker. I will not repurchase

I also finished up the Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner for dry and damaged hair. I love the smell of the Fructis products and the thickness of the conditioners which really sit on my hair and don’t leak all over the place. These two made my hair nice and soft. I will repurchase in the Fructis line in general.

Sadly, I’m also done with my Batiste Dry shampoo (clean&classic original). You can read my detailed thoughts about it *here*. I will definitely repurchase.

I’ve also been burning up deodorants like crazy. Both of  the Garnier antiperspirants were a huge miss. I like the idea behind the new version of Garnier Neo since the new spray format really distributes the product nicely. But it left white patches on my skin and I think that about half the bottle evaporated into nothing – I wasn’t using it at all and then, all of a sudden, the bottle was empty. Definitely not a repurchase which also goes for the Garnier Mineral InvisiCalm Post-Depilation antiperspirant. My skin literally hurt after I applied this. I honestly don’t know why I bother with antiperspirants at all since they obviously mess up my body chemistry.

My life saver in the beginning of the summer was the Bionsen deodorant. It’s intended for sensitive skin and without aluminum and parabens. It works like a charm, but unfortunately I would like the scent to be a bit more prominent for a summer deodorant. Will repurchase as a back-up. View Post

New bits and bobs from June – review

It’s that time of the month again – time to look back at the products I bought in June (*click* for the original post) and have been trying out for the past couple of weeks. I haven’t had a chance to use all of them, but if I have an opinion, you’ll find it below. As always, it’s a long one – but by now you probably don’t even need that warning, right? 🙂

I really like the Aussie Festival Fresh Dry Shampoo – you can read my review and comparison with Batiste dry shampoo *here*. I also tried and loved the Avon Senses Joyful tropics shower gel – the scent (papaya and peach) is a bit sweeter than I normally like, but this one somehow agreed with me. I’m still waiting to try the Artdeco Senses Asian Spa shower gel, as well as both Afrodita goodies. I did however give a go to the Biobaza deodorant and so far, I’m not too impressed. These sunny, hot and humid days are a real make-or-break test for any deodorant though, so I’ll hold off on the final verdict.

The Avon Naturals Face Mist has been a staple in my bag for the past few weeks. I like that it has almost no effect on my face makeup (not that I’m wearing that much in this heat). I also had a good go with the Avon Sun Face Cream – it didn’t break me out and it provided a good base for my foundation, so I’m liking it a lot. I’m yet to try the Artdeco face spray and the Bourjois face scrub (typical beauty blogger 1st world problems: so many product, only one face!). I have been trying sheets masks out like crazy, though, and I really see the appeal. I will say that the Balea Aqua Mask is a good one and worth the 1€ it will set you back – if nothing else, you get to try the concept, which is a bit gimmicky, but very appealing to me personally. For an in-depth review, you’ll have to wait until the following Sunday when I’ll be doing a special post about sheet masks in general. View Post

New Bits And Bobs for June 2016

I must admit that it didn’t exactly feel like I was shopping that much or received that many goodies as in the previous months. But when I hauled everything to the seaside and started taking photos, I realized that I might have a lot going on here. I already spoke briefly about some new products you’ll see below, but generally, this is the overview of everything I bought or received this month.

Also, be prepared for a long one next month as well – June is my b-day month and I always go a little overboard when ordering new things, but most of them are yet to arrive 🙂

Starting off with face, body and hair, I bought the Biobaza natural deodorant (Rosewood and Geranium). I’m only starting to discover this brand so I’m excited to try it out, especially with the bad luck I’ve been having with deodorants lately.

I received the Afrodita Body Scrub and Body Mousse as a b-day gift from a friend. I’ve had quite a bad experience with a certain Afrodita product in the past weeks, but hopefully we’ll get along better with these two.

I bought the Aussie Festival Fresh dry shampoo here in Croatia while on vacation. I haven’t seen this particular one yet in Slovenia but I’ve tried Aussie dry shampoo before and enjoyed it. View Post

Grazia Beauty Award Winners 2016

This Thursday, the Slovenian issue of Grazia Magazine gave out the Beauty Awards for the first time in Slovenian history. Among 111 products, seven beauty experts chose winners in different categories. We also got to vote, but I haven’t gotten any feedback from Grazia if our votes counted in any way (will update if I find out).

Anyway, here are the winners. All the photos (which are gorgeous, are from the Grazia website, give them some love *here*).

Life changing product: Vichy Dermablend

I have not tried this product yet. It is supposed to cover minor to major imperfections, such as redness, dark circles and uneven skin surface).

I voted for: Vichy Dermablend, because Nika from Beautyfull Blog gave it a big thumbs up 🙂

Wau effect: OPI Rapid Dry quick drying top coat

I like OPI polishes but so far, I haven’t been too impressed with the base and top coats

I voted for: Avon Eyeshadow Primer, which is one of my favorite primers of all times. View Post
