Avon True Colors Perfectly Matte lipsticks (review & swatches)

 

After a year of wearing and testing nothing else than liquid lipsticks, I was very excited to find regular bullet lipsticks in an Avon package a few weeks back. I was sent three new shades from their True Colors Perfectly Matte line. I’m hearing that the 80’s are making a comeback on the eyes with bright and bold colors, but it seems that we’re sticking with neutrals and matte finish for lips. The whole True Color Perfectly Matte line includes 18 different shades – from completely light neutral shades to deeper reds and burgundy colors.

Po poplavi tekočih mat šmink v svojem življenju sem bila prav vesela, ko sem odprla Avonov paketek in v njem našla tri “navadne” mat šminke iz njihove True Colors Perfectly Matte linije. Čeprav se v modo vračajo 80. leta in divje barve na očeh, bomo pri ustnicah očitno še nekaj časa ostali pri bolj nevtralnih barvah in mat zaključkih, kar nakazujejo tudi ti trije novi odtenki v liniji. Celotna linija sedaj obsega kar 18 odtenkov – od popolnoma svetlih in nevtralnih, do globokih rdečih in vijoličnih odtenkov.

I’ve come to expect nothing but great packaging from Avon and I wasn’t disappointed. The black plastick bullet is matte, giving it almost a suede feeling. At the bottom of each lipstick, you can find a sticker with the color and the name which is great – I store my lipsticks upside down and can quickly find the shade I’m looking for. Normally, these lippies sell for 8,60 € but are currently on sale for 4,50 €.

Embalaže so, kot je to zadnje čase že skoraj norma za Avon, tudi v tej liniji čudovite. Črna plastika je matirana, zaradi česar ima mehak občutek – skorajda, kot bi božal žamet. Na dnu so na nalepkah jasno označene tudi barve, kar je super – sama jih shranjujem obrnjene na glavo in lahko tako hitro najdem odtenek, ki ga iščem. V redni prodaji šminke stanejo 8,60 €, vendar pa jih lahko trenutno v katalogu najdeš po promocijski ceni 4,50 €.

All lipsticks have a fruity scent and taste to them which personally reminds me of Kiki candy (I’ve already discussed that with the Avon Mark lipsticks).

Vse tri šminke imajo sadni vonj in okus, ki mene osebno spominja na Kiki bombone (o tem vonju in okusu sem že govorila tudi pri Avon Mark šminkah).

The formula of Perfectly Matte lipsticks is soft and quite gentle but can apply a bit unevenly to the lips and accentuate the lines of dry lips. This means that you need to really prepare your lips beforehand – give them a nice peeling and apply some nourishing balm. You can also apply a lipgloss over it, but then, you’ll naturally lose the matte finish. Compare to liquid matte lipsticks, the feeling on the lips is much more pleasant – they don’t tug on the lips or dry them out too much. That being said, I must also mention that the wear time of these is shorter as with some liquid lipsticks, but these Perfectly Matte lippies managed to survived a coffee and a salad which I consider a success.

Formula Perfectly Matte šmink je sicer mehka in prijetna, vendar pa se na ustnice nanese nekoliko neenakomerno in izrazito poudari gubice, v kolikor so tvoje ustnice suhe. Za njihovo udobno nošenje je torej potrebna primerna predpriprava s pilingom in hranilnim balzamom, lahko pa čez šminko naneseš tudi lip gloss in s tem narediš drugačen zaključek. V primerjavi s tekočimi mat šminkami je občutek na ustnicah vsekakor bolj prijeten – ustnic ne vleče in jih ne izsuši pretirano. Seveda je tudi obstojnost v primerjavi s tekočimi mat šminkami slabša, vendar ne bi rekla, da je katastrofalna – pri meni so prav korektno preživele test solate in kave, kar je za navadno šminko po mojih merilih že uspeh.

Pink passion is my least favorite shade out of the bunch because it’s a cold pink color. I don’t think it suits my complexion. At the same time, I also had the most trouble with the application and felt like this formula is a bit more drying than the others. It also emphasized my dry lips the most out of all three.

Pink Passion je meni najmanj ljub odtenek od vseh treh, ker gre za hladno roza barvo. Zdi se mi, da ne pristaja moji polti. Hkrati je to tudi odtenek, ki mi je največ težav povzročal pri nanosu, saj je formula malenkost bolj suha, pa tudi na suhih ustnicah je zaključek vse manj kot privlačen.

Rose Awakening is a darker pink shade with some red undertones and my favorite out of three. I can only apply this one in one coat because it’s incredibly pigmented.

Rose Awakening je temnejši roza odtenek z nekaj rdečega podtona in je moj najljubši od vseh novih barv. Nanesem ga lahko samo v enem sloju, saj je izjemno pigmentiran.

Rouged Perfection is a dark red with a peachy undertone – in my mind, this is the most neutral shade of all three. I think that everyone would look in this color, but it would be spectacular on lighter complexion.

Rouged Perfection je temno roza z breskovim pridihom in za moje pojme najbolj nevtralen odtenek od vseh treh. Ta odtenek bi odlično pristajal vsem ženskam, verjetno pa bo najbolj izstopal, v kolikor je tvoja polt nekoliko svetlejša.

Colourpop haul

My Colourpop order finally arrived, two full packages of make-up just for me! In the beginning of May, Colourpop was celebrating their b-day by offering free international shipping and naturally I jumped at the chance. Although both my orders totaled under 22 € (which is the magic limit so you don’t have to pay VAT, in case you were wondering), Colourpop declared the value as much higher on the package and both packages were held and opened by our lovely Slovenian customs which cost me additional 5 € per package for their “control” and a whole lot of nerves. So this might be the last Colourpop order for a while…

Moja Colourpop paketka sta končno tu! Dve škatli, polni ličil, samo zame! V začetku maja je Colourpop praznoval rojstni dan in svoje uporabnice nagradil z brezplačno poštnino po vsem svetu, kar sem seveda izkoristila. Čeprav sta obe moji naročili znašali manj kot 22 € (kar je magična meja, da se izogneš plačilu DDV-ja), je Colourpop na paketka napisal višjo vrednost (brez popustov) in čudoviti gospodje na carini so se odločili, da je potrebno oba paketka nujno pregledati. To me je stalo še dodatnih 5 € na paket, kar me vsekakor niti najmanj ne navdušuje, zato bo verjetno to za nekaj časa tudi zadnje Colourpop naročilo.

Anyway, I ordered a bunch of different items and got them at a really good price and they even threw some additional gifts in there. Since I recently dyed my hair back to blonde from dark brown, I needed some new brow products to match my hair color. I chose both the pot and the pencil in the color Honey Blonde, which is a warm toned blonde. I must say it matches my brows quite well and doesn’t have any grey undertones which are so common with brow products for blondes. The pencil is especially great – a very slim tip makes for a precise application and the spoolie on the other side is very practical for a comb-through afterwards. The pot cost 6 $ and the pencil 5 $ which is really not a lot considering the amount of product you’re getting.  Verdict: 5/5 for both of these.

Naročila sem cel kup različnih izdelkov po super cenah, zraven pa dobila še nekaj darilc. Ker sem si pred kratkim lase iz temno rjave barve po nekaj letih ponovno pobarvala na blond, sem potrebovala tudi nove izdelke za obrvi. Izbrala sem pomado in svinčnik v odtenku Honey Blonde. Barva je za moje obrvi super, prav tako pa nima nobenih sivih podtonov, ki so tako značilni za svetle odtenke izdelkov za obrvi. Še posebej sem navdušena nad svinčnikom, ki ima izredno tanko konico za natačno vrisovanje dlačic, ščetka na drugi strani pa je prav tako koristna, da na koncu obrvi še natančno prečešem. Cena pomade je 6 $, svinčnika pa 5 $, kar se mi ne zdi veliko, sploh glede na to, da je v obojih kar velika količina izdelka. View Post

Golden Rose Lipsticks: matte vs. matte vs. matte!

 

Golden Rose matte lipsticks are all the rage right now. Golden Rose just released a bunch of new shades of liquid matte lipsticks and the social media in Slovenia have gone crazy over them. I already discussed my opinion on GR liquid matte lipsticks once before (you can read about it *here*) but I often get asked about other matte lippies by Golden Rose. So here is the long promised and awaited post of matte lipstick vs. matte lipstick vs. matte lipstick.

Golden Rose mat tekoče šminke so v Sloveniji ogromen hit. Pred dnevi so v kolekcijo dodali še cel kup novih odtenkov in družbena omrežja so eksplodirala od navdušenja nad njimi. Sama sem o tekočih Golden Rose mat šminkah že pisala (mnenje si lahko prebereš *tu*), vendar pa me bralke pogosto sprašujete tudi, kakšno je moje mnenje o drugih mat šminkah te znamke. Zato danes končno objavljam dolgo pričakovano objavo o troboju med tremi Golden Rose mat variantami šmink.

Let’s start with the classic I talked about above – the Golden Rose Longstay Liquid Matte Lipstick (photo: shade 11). Unlike most of my blogger colleagues, I’m really not a fan of this formula since it has a strong vanilla scent that really bothers me when I’m wearing it. I also find the applicator too big for precise application. Granted, once it’s on your lips, it will last a long time and is pretty comfortable to wear, but I simply don’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.

Začniva s klasiko, o kateri sem govorila že zgoraj – Golden Rose Longstay Liquid Matte Lipstick (na fotografiji odtenek 11). Za razliko od večine blogerskih kolegic nisem ljubiteljica te formule, saj ima močan vonj po vaniliji, ki me moti ves čas nošenja te šminke. Prav tako se mi zdi aplikator prevelik za natančen nanos, ki ga tekoče šminke seveda zahtevajo. ProvoCATRICE: Eyeshadow palette “En Touche” review

It’s been a while since the last Catrice limited edition collection hit the shelves so I wasn’t too surprised when I opened my mailbox and realized that a new one is one the way. Catrice kindly provided me with an eyeshadow palette from the new ProvoCATRICE line which will be available until July. If you haven’t decided on the purchase yet, you can find my opinion about the lovely ProvoCATRICE Une Touche (touch) 5-pan palette down below.

Od zadnje limited edition kolekcije Catrice je minilo že kar nekaj časa, zato priznam, da nisem bila preveč presenečena, ko me je v nabiralniku pričakal paketek s paleto senčil iz nove linije ProvoCATRICE. Linija na police drogerij Tuš, v E.Leclerc MB, drogerije Ilirija in v spletno trgovino Click2Chic prihaja s 17.5. (in bo na voljo do julija), v kolikor pa se še nisi opogumila za nakup, pa si lahko v nadaljevanju prebereš moje mnenje o novi lepotički v moji zbirki – paleti petih senčil ProvoCATRICE Une Touche (dotik).

The entire line was inspired by the visual elements of lingerie and street fashion combos that are so popular on the streets these days. Besides the palette (5,29€), the ProvoCATRICE Line also includes five different rainbow nail polishes (3,29), two ombre blushes (4,29€), scented transparent powder (5,29), volumizing lash dust (4,29€) and two cushion matte lipsticks (5,29€). Personally, I’m most excited about the blushes and the polishes. I will be adding the latter to my collection of “not work appropriate but super cool for vacation and weekend gatherings with friends” collection.

Celotna linija navdih črpa iz vizualnih elementov kombinacije perila in ulične mode. Poleg spodaj predstavljene palete (5,29€) v njej lahko najdeš tudi pet mavričnih odtenkov lakov (3,29€), dvoje ombre rdečil za lička (4,29€), odišavljen transparentni puder (5,29€), prah za volumen trepalnic (4,29€) ter dve cushion mat šminki (5,29€). Osebno se najbolj navdušujem nad rdečili in laki, s katerimi bom verjetno še nekoliko obogatila svojo zbirko tistih lakov, ki morda niso najbolj primerni za v službo, jih bom pa še z večjim veseljem nosila med dopustom in vikend druženji s prijateljicami.

Une Touche palette is basically what could be the perfect palette. Small enough to fit in any purse and sturdy enough to withstand even the most exciting of travels. In general, I’d say that Catrice limited edition packagings are always of high quality and some of the best in my collection. I can tell that the palette was carefully curated. It contains two matte shadows (gray and light pink) great for the crease, two shimmery shadows for the lid and inside corner and a dark brown which is absolutely necessary for an evening look.

Paleta Une Touche je v osnovi popolna paleta. Dovolj majhna, da sodi v vsako torbico, dovolj trdna, da bi zdržala tudi kakšno bolj razburljivo potovanje. Na splošno so embalaže limited edition Catrice linij ene bolj trpežnih v moji zbirki. Pet odtenkov je bilo izbranih zelo premišljeno. Dva mat odtenka (siv in nežno roza) sta odlična za v pregib veke, z dvema svetlikajočima odtenkoma se poudari notranjost očesa in očesne kotičke, temno rjava barva pa je seveda nepogrešljiva za kakšen bolj večerni videz, ko rahlo zadimimo zunanje kotičke. Beauty brands I’m boycotting

I try not to be overly judgmental when it comes to make-up. I know many of you are very conscious and only buy white-list products, vegan products, those that are not tested on animals an so forth. When I’m choosing between two almost identical products, I’ll take such factors into consideration as well, but sometimes when I really want something I’ll buy it regardless. I do however have a whole list of brands that I’ll never, never buy anthying from (again) for a bunch of different reasons, most of them being that they are completely in conflict with my values.

Pri lepotnih izdelkih glede sestavin nisem preveč natančna, verjetno bi lahko celo rekla, da sem premalo natančna. Vem, da veliko potrošnic preveri, da je izdelek na beli list, veganski, ni testiran na živalih in podobno. Kadar se odločam med dvema praktično enakima izdelkoma, tudi sama preverim te stvari, vendar pa priznam – če si izdelek res želim, ga bom kupila ne glede na to, kakšne so na primer njegove sestavine. Po drugi strani pa obstaja cela vrsta znamk, od katerih nikoli (več) ne bom kupila ničesar, večinoma zato, ker so njihova dejanja popolnoma v nasprotju z mojimi vrednotami.

On the very top of the list you’ll find JEFFREE STAR COSMETICS. I have so many problems with this brand that I don’t even know where to start, but let’s try to name a few. I won’t buy their products because of the YouTube Guru and brand owner, Jeffree. I refuse to buy products from a racist who finds it appropriate to use the N word and threatens to spill acid over people. I won’t give a single cent of my money to a person who will overflow the market with gimmicky products (black highlighter?) just to get more money from his fans. I won’t buy anything from a person who reacts to criticism by sending his army of loyal fans to attack the critic. And don’t even get me started on all the stories about horrible customer service of the company. WILL NOT BUY. BYE.

Čisto na vrhu mojega seznama se nahaja znamka JEFFREE STAR COSMETICS. S to znamko imam toliko problemov, da sploh ne vem, kje naj začnem, zato jih bom naštela le nekaj. Njihovih izdelkov ne bom kupila zaradi vedenja lastnika, YouTube zvezdnika Jeffree-ja Stara. Ne bom kupovala izdelkov, za katerimi stoji rasist, ki se mu zdi primerna uporaba besede na N in ljudem grozi, da jih bo polil s kislino. Niti centa svojega denarja ne dam osebi, ki na trg pošilja neuporabne izdelke (črn osvetljevalec?!) le zato, da od svojih privržencev dobi še kakšen dolar. Ne bom podpirala osebe, ki se na kritike odzove tako, da nad kritika pošlje svojo vojsko oboževalcev, ki ga potem nadlegujejo in mu grozijo. Vseh slabih izkušenj strank s podjetjem pa tu sploh ne bom naštevala. NE BOM KUPILA. ČAO!

Next, let’s talk about KYLIE COSMETICS. I despise the Kardashian trend as it is, but what I despise even more is that one of them can put their name on a product they probably didn’t even have much to do with before it launched. Just by doing this the price tag increases incredibly and sells out in matter of minutes. Like, c’mon, really? And excluding a few extra ingredients in the Colourpop liquid lipsticks (6$), the formula of Kylie’s Liquid Lipsticks (17$) is identical – because both are produced by Spatz Labs. Customers have received lipsticks with destroyed applicators, lipsticks that were leaking and even empty boxes. And Kylie is laughing all the way to the bank. WILL NOT BUY. BYE.

Naslednja znamka na seznamu je KYLIE COSMETICS. Že v osnovi preziram Kardashian trend, kar pa mi je še bolj grozno je, da lahko njegovi člani svoje ime prilepijo na karkoli, pri čemer pa verjetno sploh kaj dosti ne sodelujejo pri nastajanju izdelkov. Samo s tem, da je na izdelku napisano njihovo ime, se cena izjemno poveča in se izdelek razproda v nekaj minutah. Resno? Če primerjamo Colourpop formulo tekoče šminke (6$) in Kylie Cosmetics tekoče šminke (17$), lahko ugotovimo, da je v Colourpop formuli nekaj sestavin več, sicer pa sta formuli praktično identični. Ne gre za naključje – obe namreč proizvaja Spatz Labs. Stranke so prejele šminke z uničenimi aplikatorji, šminke, ki so puščale in celo prazne škatle. Kylie pa se smeje cel čas na poti do banke. NE BOM KUPILA. ČAO!

LIMECRIME is not that popular in Slovenia but nevertheless I see young women lusting over their liquid lipsticks like they’re the best thing on Earth. Well, it just so happens that Limecrime has a very shady history. We can talk about how they repackaged wholesale products into their tubes and sold them forward. We can talk about when they had a breach of security in their internet payment protocol (which resulted in people’s credit cards being charged 1000’s of dollars) and thought Instagram was the best way to let their customers know about this. Or, we can discuss the time when their founder dressed up like Hitler for Halloween. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. WILL NOT BUY. BYE.

LIMECRIME znamka v Sloveniji sicer ni tako popularna, še vedno pa jo občasno zasledim na seznamu želja kakšne deklice, ki meni, da so njihovi izdelki nekaj najboljšega na svetu. Na žalost ima znamka zelo temno preteklost. Kakšno besedo lahko spregovorim o tem, kako so formule iz veleprodaje le prepakirali v svoje embalaže in jih prodali dalje. Lahko govorimo o tem, kako so po vdoru v plačilni sistem na njihovi spletni strani (ki je določene stranke stal tudi več tisočev dolarjev v zlorabi kartice) svoje stranke o tem obvestili le na Instagramu. Ali pa se lahko ozremo v čas, ko se je ustanoviteljici znamke zdelo primerno, da se za Halloween obleče v kostum Hitlerja. Vse to je le vrh ledene gore. NE BOM KUPILA. ČAO!

A brand that’s all the rage right now all over YouTube and in beauty community is MORPHE. I have nothing against brand advertising with both ATL and BTL methods as long as the advertiser is being open and honest about it. But you see so  many Youtubers rave about Morphe palettes and then never once mention them in their Favorites videos.  I had the chance to swatch them and I’d say that the palettes are nothing  special. But the thing that I really dislike is that the brand is really just doing private labeling – the use the same formulas being sold by other (cheaper!) brands, repackage them, change the names and sell them with profit. So basically anyone could do that. WILL NOT BUY. BYE.

Znamka, ki je v zadnjem letu preplavila YouTube in lepotno skupnost je MORPHE. Nič nimam z oglaševanjem na ATL in BTL kanalih, dokler je takšno oglaševanje transparentno in oseba, ki oglaševanje izvaja, to tudi prizna. Vendar pa sem naveličana tega, da od različnih YouTuberjev poslušam, kako neverjetna in čudovita je ta Morphe paleta in da jo enostavno moram imeti,  hkrati pa te iste palete nikoli več ne vidim niti na njihovem kanalu, niti ni omenjena v njihovih mesečnih najbolj priljubljenih izdelkih. Sama sem imela možnost eno od mnogih palet preizkusiti in rečem lahko, da res ni nič posebnega. Kar pa me pri znamki najbolj moti, je da v resnici tudi oni uporabljajo formulo, ki se proizvaja za več znamk, jo samo prepakirajo, dodajo svoje ime in jo prodajo z visokim dobičkom. Na ta način bi lahko imel znamko praktično kdorkoli. NE BOM KUPILA. ČAO!

Last but not least I want to say a few words about a brand that I actually own quite a few products from, MAKE-UP REVOLUTION. I’ve written quite a few blog posts about their products already but now I can say that I won’t be buying their products anymore because they are nothing short of thieves, even if they’re »just« stealing intellectual property. They see a new product by a high-end brand come out, take it, slightly change the name (like when they copied Kat Von D’s Shade&Light Eye Contour Palette and named it Ultra Eye Contour Shade&Light), copy everything else and sell it as »their« own product. If you’re curious about their practice, just Google it – they’ve ripped off Charlotte Tilbury, Laura Mercier, Smashbox, Stila, Tarte, Hourglass, Real Techniques, Soap and Glory, Ben Nye and many others. And to top it all off, they are proud and call themselves »kings of dupes«. Well, they can keep their dupes. WILL NOT BUY. BYE.

Nenazadnje še nekaj besed o znamki, o kateri sem na blogu že pisala, pred časom pa sem se odločila, da so presegli mejo dobrega okusa. Ta znamka je MAKE-UP REVOLUTION. V mojih očeh so postali lopovi, pa čeprav kradejo »samo« intelektualno lastnino. Ko na trg pride popularen izdelek dražje in popularne blagovne znamke, ga vzamejo, malo spremenijo ime (kopiji Kat Von D palete Shade&Light Eye Contour Palette so nadeli kar ime Ultra Eye Contour Shade&Light), skopirajo vse podobnosti in izdelek prodajo kot lasten izum. Če te zanima več o njihovih praksah, si lahko več poiščeš na internetu – kopirali so že izdelke mnogih blagovnih znamk, na primer Charlotte Tilbury, Laura Mercier, Smashbox, Stila, Tarte, Hourglass, Real Techniques, Soap and Glory, Ben Nye in drugih. Da pa je mera polna, so na to svojo dejavnost ponosni in se dejansko imenujejo »kralji ponaredkov«. No, svoje ponaredke lahko obdržijo. NE BOM (VEČ) KUPILA. ČAO!
